Neal’s Yard Remedies
We opened our doors on 4th December, 1981 in Neal’s Yard, a once forgotten corner of Covent Garden, in the heart of central London, England. Our passionate belief that beauty should be natural, not synthetic, has been at the heart of our business since we started, over 30 years ago. We believe in nature, honesty and transparency, and your right to know what goes into the products you buy.
Our vision was to bring the expertise of the apothecary and our holistic approach to health and beauty to people and communities.
Today awareness and interest in natural remedies, skin and body care are on the increase. But when we opened our first shop in Covent Garden, we were one of the few pushing against the synthetic chemical approach to skin and health care that had been adopted by much of the industry.
We have the world’s largest collection of Soil Association certified, organic health and beauty products.
We follow the Precautionary Principle – a social responsibility to protect the public from exposure to harm. This means you won’t find parabens, GMOs, mineral oils, synthetic fragrances or colors, or anything else we believe could cause you or the planet harm in any of our products. Just lots of lovely pure natural and organic ingredients.

What is organic farming?
Organic farming is based on a holistic approach that respects the power of natural processes. According to EU guidelines, organic farming practices are “designed to minimise the human impact on the environment, while ensuring the agricultural system operates as naturally as possible”.
